Whyalla is one of Australia’s best locations to chase big Red Snapper - they have been recorded in the 15kg range with some coming in at the 17kg mark! While small-medium Snapper can be caught from the rocks, it is the experience of a quality guide and a vessel full equipped which will allow you to bring in the trophy fish that anglers search for. The closest reef is only a few kilometres from your launch point but there are deeper channels around to be worked as well as the southern snapper grounds that you will be taken to. The greatest feature of this place as a fishing destination is that it produces quality fish all year round.
Of course Snapper isn't the only species that Whyalla offers, you can also target Whiting, Salmon, Garfish and Kingfish, all of which will be packed for you to take home to eat. If you would like to keep your entire trip about seafood the beaches are quite popular between Spring and Autumn for crabbing at low tide. The Blue Swimmer Crabs can either be dug up from the sand or caught swimming in the distant shallows. Packages and day trips are available.
